West Coast Elite All Star Scouts Camp Colorado
Ryan Silver has the brought the West Coast Elite All Star Scouts Camp to Colorado four years running. This year the camp was held at Manual High School’s Thunderdome and as had been the case some of the other fall events this year the underclassmen looked really good while a few seniors had dominating performances .
In the Top 20 game, 2017 wing 6’7 D’Shawn Schwartz from Sand Creek stood out. He did a little bit of everything from running the point at times to shooting threes and midrange jumpers and he had nice put back dunk. Defensively he made a couple players hang out above the three point line and they didn’t even try to go to the paint on him.
6’10 2017 F/C Hunter Thompson from Pine Bluffs, Wyoming showed that he can handle the big stage. He showed good footwork and nice hands. He was able to finish around the basket. Wasn’t quite ready yet for the size and strength of a DeRon Davis but he didn’t back down. Lots to like about Thompson.
6’6 2016 wing Chudier Bile of Denver South has picked up where he left off last spring. Bile really excelled in the open floor and usually ended with a dunk in the lane. Bile was also active on the boards at both ends of the floor with his long arms and jumping ability.
2016 F/C DeRon Davis from Overland was simply over powering in the paint. There are a very few players, if any, that can deal with Davis in the paint at the high school level here in Colorado. He also showed that he will need to be guarded on the perimeter as well. Davis had just returned from an official visit to Mississippi State which he said went well and expects to make a decision next week.
In the top 40 game the excitement was provided by 2016 6’3 wing Wally Elnour from Montbello and 2016 6’7 forward Daytone Jennings now at Denver East squared off against each other. Elnour was nearly perfect from behind the three point line and showed that he can finish above the rim. Jennings showed a lot of athleticism, handling the ball on bust outs, finishing well around the rim and blocking a few shots.
6’2 2016 guard Jervae Robinson finished well in this game. Robinson also showed that he can handle the ball with the best of them and when he is finishing like he was, he can be a special player.
The Top 60 game had a few players that could have argued to have been in the Top 40 game. Such as 2019 guard Jo Nelson from Montbello. Nelson just has a feel for the game and showed that he could do whatever was needed. Pass or score Nelson can do it.
2016 6’2 wing Jadyn Michael from DSST-GVR showed in the game a nice looking mid range jump shot and is very athletic and was a proficient ball handler.
When 2016 6’2 guard Tyler Stevenson from Overland hits his shots, he is one of the better players on the floor. He makes the right plays and takes good shots. The shots just have to fall for him then his confidence soars.
Be on the look out for by class reviews of the event coming out later this week.
