Boulder, CO – In the first 4A semifinal game featuring Valor Christian and Broomfield, there was only one lead change in the entire game. Unfortunately for Broomfield, it came with 7 seconds left in the game as Valor Christian’s Luke Proctor hit his only shot of the night, a three pointer, to give Valor the 75-74 lead.  Broomfield dominated most of the game jumping out to an early lead and extending it to as much as 16 points in the 3rd quarter.

While shooting much better in the second half, it wasn’t what it did as much as what Broomfield didn’t do that led to the Valor comeback. With 1:25 left in the game, Broomfield took a 9-point lead after an Evan Kihn free throw, 71-63.  Valor’s press left open lanes that Broomfield couldn’t pass up. They attacked the press and missed layups, turned the ball over, or missed free throws. After a Spencer Reeb dunk that gave Broomfield a 74-69 lead with less than 50 seconds to play, Valor’s Chase Foster was fouled on a three-point try. Foster sank all three free-throws making it a two point game, 74-72 with 31.6 seconds left.  After another missed lay-up by Broomfield, Valor ran some time off the clock then dribble penetrated and passed out to Proctor for the game winner. Reeb did have a decent look at a last second three-pointer for Broomfield, but it failed to go through the hoop.

Broomfield had four players in double figures: Alec McLain and Dan Perse had 19, Evan Kihn 16, and Reeb added 14 points. Valor had only two players in double figures Foster had a game high 25 and Garrett Baggett added 20 points.

Valor plays again on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at the Coors Events Center versus Lewis-Palmer for the 4A Championship.
