Top10 5A Games Week of Jan 1, 2018
The second half of the high school basketball season wastes no time getting started in 2018 with a bevy of big 5A Top1o games.
1. Rock Canyon (9-0)
The Jaguars take the court against Mountian Range on 1/3. Some might be a little dismissive of this match-up but they shouldn’t be. Mountain Range beat Rock Canyon in the first game back from Christmas break last year and Mountian Range has been solid this year. Rock Canyon then plays Rangeview on 1/5. Rangeview is young but they seem to get up for big games.
2. Smoky Hill (7-2)
The Buffaloes start the new season with #7 Grandviewon Thursday at Grandview. Even though it’s the first game of league play, this game could go along ways in deciding the league title. Then they host Cherokee Trail on Saturday.
3. Denver East (9-1)
Friday, East will Host #5 Chaparral. This is the biggest game either of these two teams have played in the state this season.
4. Regis Jesuit (8-1)
The Raiders play at Cherokee Trail on 1/3 and then travel across town to Lincoln on the 6th. Raiders will need to stay focused and not look forward to their game with GW next week.
5. Chaparral (8-2)
As mentioned before the Wolverines will play at Denver East on Friday. This is a big game for Chaparral and will be challenged by East’s defense. Are the Wolverines ready to stake their claim as a contender?
6. ThunderRidge (10-1)
The Grizzlies host #8 George Washington on Friday. Lots to look at in this game. But the match-up between seniors Kaison Hammonds and Jon’il Fugett is a must watch. On Saturday ThunderRidge travels to Boulder.
7. Grandview (7-1)
The Wolves play one of the first games of 2018 when they play at Mullen on Tuesday. The Wolves shouldn’t over look the Mustangs. But it might be hard for them not too with #2 Smoky Hill waiting on Thursday.
8. George Washington (7-4)
The Patriots travel to ThunderRidge on Friday. Another match-up to watch will be between seniors Justin McCaw and Xavier Cooper. Both guards are key to their teams success.
9. Doherty (6-2)
The Spartans host Chatfield on Wednesday and then start league play at Liberty on Thursday. They end the week at Coronado on Saturday.
Tie 10. Rampart (5-2) / Mountain Vista (7-3)
The Rams host their own tournament at the World Arena this week starting on Thursday against Fruita Monument. Then play Colorado Springs Christian on Friday and Pueblo West on Saturday.
Mountain Vista plays at Foutain-Ft. Carson on Thursday. That game is a rematch of the Cherry Creek tournament which the Golden Eagles won.
