Prep Hoops Colorado 250 – Part 2 – Eyecatchers 2021

As mentioned before the class of 2021 did well at the 250. Most of the juniors wasted little time impacting the play at Gold Crown. While a few familiar names impacted games there was several other that caught our eye.

Jarmell Johnson, a 6’4 guard from George Washington, might have had the best day of anyone at the 250. He finished very well in transition and got after it on the defensive end of the floor. Dakota Ridge’s Taeshaud Jackson a 6’6 wing had several highlight plays including a vicious two-handed dunk in traffic. Aaron Jacob, the 6’7 wing from Chaparral continues to impact games as his confidence in the lane and finishing at the rim continues to improve.

Alonso Paul 5’8 guard – Regis Jesuit – You would be hard-pressed to find a guard that played with a better feel and poise than Paul did at the 250. He showed that he knew exactly where to get on the floor and that he could deliver the perfect pass on time and on target. He easily broke down defenders and showed that he can finish in the lane. His smooth play can go unnoticed.

Eddie McPhee – 6’4 guard – George Washington – McPhee’s game looked effortless as he got easy looks at the rim and from behind the three point line. He showed flashes of his athletic ability and has plenty of untapped potential.

Brad Kerr – 6’6 forward – Denver East – Kerr did very well in the lane as a rebounder and defender. He also showed that he was willing to step out and take the three point shot. If he continues to grown he could be a legit high academic stretch four.

Colton Gillingham – 5’11 guard – Greeley West – Gillingham got after it on Sunday. He seemed to be involved every where on the floor. He attacked the basket and got a number of tough finishes to drop. He defended well and wasn’t afraid to get on the floor after a 50 /50 ball.

Izayah Elize – 6’3 guard – Frederick – We mentioned Elize in our first post and he will be hard to handle at the 4A level this year. His ball handling and combined with his athletic ability will make it hard to keep him at out of the lane.

Ben Bowen – 6’4 guard – Mountain Vista – Another player who can sometimes go unnoticed because he make the simple and most effective play. He was unselfish and took and made the shots with in the flow of the game. Bowen was willing to get in the lane and rebound and did a solid job defending.

AJ Kula – 6’4 guard – Valor Christian – Kula played very well on Sunday. He showed off his court vision and passing ability by dropping [asses all over the floor to open shooters and cutters to the basket. When defenders stepped back he kept them honest by knocking down three point shots.

Jimmy Stary – 6’2 guard – Boulder – There was something about the way that Stary played on Sunday that kept catching out eye. He had a nose for the ball and seemed to be involved in a number of 50 /50 balls. He showed that he could finish in the lane and make the smart play. He was solid fundamentally and his had a good looking jumper.
