Jim Elliott Christian v. Cornerstone Christian
By David Matthews
The game started out fairly even with both teams trading baskets early. Jim Elliott pulled ahead a little in the second quarter and Cornerstone was able to hit enough shots to stay within striking distance. Jim Elliott ended up leading by about ten points heading into halftime. The third quarter was much of the same with both teams trading baskets. The final frame was all Jim Elliott. The outscored Cornerstone 25-4 in the frame and ended up with a 79-49 win.
Jim Elliott looked pretty good in the game. The win advanced them to the Semi Finals of their district tournament and put them one game away from advancing to regionals. In order to do that, they will have to beat highly ranked Shining Mountain later this week. This is a young team that will be tough again next year. They were led last night by junior post Alex McClure. The wide bodied post finished with about 15 points and probably about 15 rebounds. Freshmen guard Isaiah Bergner also looked good in the game and probably finished with about 15 points as well. He is athletic and scores well going to the rim. Sophomore Matt Bogner also had some nice moments. This is certainly a team that will win a lot of games next season as basically all their key players will return.
Cornerstone Christian’s season is now over. They looked decent for the first three quarters before the wheels came off in the fourth quarter. Senior Evan Ice had a big game and probably finished with about 25 points. Sophomore big man Michael Durrill also had a nice game and finished with about 15 points and 10 rebounds.
