Get’em On!

Bring the State Championship Games Back to Television!

There was a time not all that long ago that people could turn on their televisions and watch both the boys and the girls 5A & 4A state basketball championship games. People remember watching one of the most dramatic moments in state tournament history. Josh Adams aerobatic tip in at the overtime buzzer helped Chaparral claim its first 5A title.  It is time to bring the excitement of the state championships back to television! It would be a shame for a history-making game or an incredible comeback or a record-setting performance to be missed by the masses because it could only be seen on a live stream. Our student-athletes have worked too hard not to be able to showcase their teams and talents on television and to be regulated to live streams.

Each year there is talk on social media about why the move to live streams? The answer is simple, cost.  Rights fees, production, and airtime all come at a cost.  Until now no one has come up with an idea of how to defy those costs.  Coming together as a basketball community we can get the championship games back on television.  By getting the games back television not only do we showcase the best boys and girls in the state but it also helps grow the game of basketball in our great state. Basketball fans have missed out on seeing epic games. Take for instance the 5A Girls State Championship game last year between Grandview and Regis Jesuit. The 4A Boys State Championship game last season. Longmont’s Luke Johnson and Lewis-Palmer’s Josh Scott put together incredible performances on the biggest stage. Or how about Eaglecrest 5A Championship in 2017. Coach Olander capped a great coaching career with another state title behind the dominance of Colbey Ross.   All of these moments should have been on television.

Basketball Colorado has been in discussions with the powers that be and believe we can get the games back on television this year.  For less than half of the cost of parking at the state championships you can help bring the title games back to television.  As basketball community I know we can do this! Due to a short turnaround window, this campaign is only 15 days so act now!
