Fossil Ridge Holds Off Highlands Ranch
The Fossil Ridge Sabercats traveled to Highlands Ranch High School Wednesday night and held off a late charge by the Falcons to take the victory 51-46. Down four with only a minute left in the game the Falcons forced four Fossil Ridge turnovers in a row but failed to convert any of them into points.
Sabercat junior Braxton Bertolette scored his game high 16 points in the second half after spending much of the first on the bench with foul trouble. That opened the door for senior guard Garrett
Schmidt who scored 10 points to lead the Sabercats to a 27-23 lead at half. Max Holewinski led the Falcons in the first half with 10 points.
The second half saw both teams play solid defense and miss a lot of shots unless you were Bertolette. Bertolette took advantage of his ball handling ability and easily made his way to the basket and finished on multiple occasions. Fossil Ridge’s big men did a good job on the defensive boards allowing the Falcons only one shot on offense on numerous occasions. The Falcons couldn’t get much going on offense until the fourth quarter when five different Falcons scored, senior Will Powell scored five. Fossil Ridge managed to hang despite the turnovers in the last minute.
