Here is the last 5A Top 10 of 2014. There are a number of quality teams in class 5A this season that have a legitimate claim to be in the Top 10 and it was very difficult to cut the list down.
1. Regis Jesuit (7-0) Perhaps the most complete team that runs their system to a T. Will play 1/3 vs Grandview.
2. ThunderRidge (9-0) Went 4-0 at Foothills Tournament in Las Vegas but missed out on Championship game due to 23 game rule. Oh and they did that with out big man Zach Pirog out with an injury. The Grizzlies play 1/3 against Denver East.
3. Dakota Ridge (8-0) Another high performing “team”. Last time out defeated Arapahoe. Will play Highlands Ranch 1/5 before starting Jeffco play.
4. Overland (4-4) Yes a .500 team ranked fourth in 5A. Overland has only one in state loss. The Trailblazers finished the Tark Classic 2-2. The two losses were against two teams that play a national schedule and would easily run the table if they played in Colorado. Overland plays Chaparral 1/6 in a Top 10 match up.
5. Rangeview (6-1) – Defeated Cherokee Trail before the Christmas Break. Rangeview hosts Cherry Creek 1/3. The Raiders schedule docent get any easier with games against #2 ThunderRidge and #1 Regis Jesuit the following week.
6. Chaparral (7-2) – The Wolverines went 3-1 at the Phoenix Union Tournament losing in the finals. Overland awaits 1/6.
7. Warriors (8-1) – The Warriors are off to their best start in a number of years, with the lone loss coming to #3 Dakota Ridge. The Warriors first game after the break is against 4A Sand Creek 1/5.
8. Rock Canyon (8-3) – Rock Canyon played well at the Tark Classic going 3-1 with a 3rd place finish in the 3rd bracket. Senior guard Tyler Garcia averaged 20ppg in Vegas. The Jaguars will play on 1/3 against the Smoky Hill Buffaloes.
9. Monarch (9-1) Won the Fairview and Prairie View Tournaments. Maybe the second best team that runs their system. Monarch will play Ralston Valley 1/6.
10. Legend ( 7-3) Won the Cherry Creek tournament defeating Cherry Creek in the finals. The Titans are on a five game win streak and faces Liberty 1/6.
