Basketball Colorado 5A Top10 Week of February 4, 2018

Basketball Colorado 5A Top10 Week of February 4, 2018

There is major movement in the 5A Top10 this week.  With Chaparral handing Rock Canyon their first loss of the season and Smoky Hill sending a clear message against Overland a reordering of the Top10 must be done. This week has plenty of big games as well that will have an impact on the Top10 and RPI. It’s hard to imagine that only 4 games remain in the regular season for most teams.

1. ThunderRidge (18-1)

How long will the new #1 ranking last? #2 Chaparral knocked off Rock Canyon convincingly on last Friday and they arrive in the Grizzlies Den on Tuesday. Then ThunderRidge faces always scrappy Mountain Vista on Friday.

2. Chaparral (16-3)

The Wolverines are showing that they can beat anyone even when they are not full strength. Junior wing Ronnie DeGray III leads Chaparral into ThunderRidge on Tuesday and then host  cross town rival Legend on Friday.

3.  George Washington (14-5)

GW continues to throttle most opponents in the DPL and probably won’t get a serious test until the final game of the season against East. Thomas Jefferson and West are on the schedule this week.

4.  Denver East (15-2)

Angels also continue to throttle opponents in the DPL but face #10 Doherty this Tuesday in the Springs and then face Denver South on Saturday.

5. Rock Canyon (18-1)

The Jaguars took one on the chin last Friday and are looking to regain their mojo at Legend and then home against Highlands Ranch.  Rock Canyon is still in the hunt for the league title but will need some help down the stretch.

6. Smoky Hill (13-6)

The Buffaloes are playing their best basketball of the year but they haven’t peaked yet.  Mullen and Arapahoe are on Smoky Hill’s schedule this week.

7. Grandview (15-4)

The Wolves  have a big week a head of them, Eaglecrest at home on Wednesday and then travel to  #8 Overland on Saturday.

8.  Overland (11-8)

The Trailblazers are looking to get right against Cherokee Trail on Wednesday and then be ready for Grandview on Saturday.

9.   Regis Jesuit (15-4)

Regis has their last home regular season game of the season on Tuesday against Mountain Vista. On Friday the Raiders travel to Ponderosa.

10.  Doherty (15-3)

The Spartans host #4 Denver East in a great late season game. Next, Doherty hosts Rampart on Thursday and then travels to Palmer on Saturday. If that isn’t a week full of playoff type intensity I don’t know what is.
