Basketball Colorado 5A Top10 – Week 5

Happy New Year! The second half of the season promises to be full of excitement and drama as teams begin their march toward the Great Eight and Final Four at the Denver Coliseum. The excitement begins this week with  #8 Chatfield traveling down to #9 Doherty on Tuesday in what should be a very fast-paced game.  The Centennial League starts play on Wednesday when #5 Smoky Hill hosts #7 and undefeated Grandview. 

 1 . George Washington (10-1) 

Finished the Tark Classic 3-1 and taking 3rd place in a very tough bracket. The Patriots take on #4 ThunderRidge on Friday.

2.  Rock Canyon (9-1) 

The Jaguars finished 2016  on a seven-game winning streak and look to start 2017 just as hot. Junior guard Tyson Gilbert will get to see his first game action on Friday against Rangeview.

3. Denver East (8-3)

The Angels lost two games in Vegas at the Tark Classic but no worries junior Daylen Kountz and senior Jamison Washington get to play against Chaparral.

4.  ThunderRidge (9-1)

ThunderRidge had only one loss at the Tark Classic coming in the championship game of their bracket.  Friday could be a preview of a Coliseum game.

5. Smoky Hill (7-2) 

Smoky Hill has had a very good start to the season and starts 2017 with #7 Grandview on Wednesday.

6. Eaglecrest (6-2) 

Eaglecrest ended the first half of the season by going 3-1 at the Tark Classic. The Raptors start league play this week with Overland.

7. Grandview (9-0) 

8. Chatfield (6-1)

Chatfield and Doherty match up on Tuesday and it should be one of the better games of the week.

9. Doherty (6-2) 

Doherty lost to Vista Ridge on a buzzer beater from Hunter Maldonado before the Christmas break. They go to Chatfield in a very tough game, especially being the first after the break.

10. Cherry Creek  (8-1)

Creek won their Holiday Classic Tournament and only lost to ThunderRidge before the break. The Bruins face Cherokee Trail and Overland this week.
