2015 Mile High Classic Wrap Up

Lakewood, CO – The 2015 Mile High Classic came to a close Sunday afternoon at Gold Crown with the U14- U17 divisions crowing their champions.

17’s

The Colorado Miners 17 Elite took the U17 Gold Bracket championship with a win over the Colorado Chaos 2016’s.  The Miners  were just too good in finals , unsigned seniors Ryley Stewart (Highlands Ranch), Tarren Storey-Way (Rangeview)  and Kameron Brandon (Cherokee Trail)  each had double figures in the 20 point win. Chaos 2016’s were led by Troy Brady (ThunderRidge) and Ryan Webb (Monarch) Each scoring over 10 points in the finals.  In order for the Miners to get to the finals they had to defeat the Colorado Chaos 17 Elite in the semi-finals. It took an Isiah Martin  block shot and free throws by Nathan Hass in the final seconds to end  Chaos’s threat.  Martin, Stewart and Hass each finished in double figures.  Chaos had Sam Howard (Colorado Springs Christian School), Mike Ranson (Pueblo Central), Jonathan Scott (Lewis-Palmer)  and Clay Verk (ThunderRidge) in double figures in the semi-finals.

In the Silver Bracket Team Denver and Team 307 (Gillette,Wy) faced off in the finals.  Cody Kelley scored 33 points for Team 307 and took the Silver Bracket championship. Team Denver was led by 6’5 F Jovell Black also from Wyoming, he scored 16 in the championship game.

In the Classic Bracket the Colorado Celtics battled low numbers and cramps to outlast the Colorado Titans 17 Black to take the championship. The Classic championship was the most competitive of the 17U group. Neither team held a lead of more than six points through out much of the second half.  6’1  unsigned 2015 guard Dre Harvey (Cherokee Trail)  scored 29 points in the championship game .  6’3 Kelsey Williams (Hinkley) added 21 points for the Celtics.

In the gold bracket it was the Colorado Chaos 16 Elite versus the Colorado Titans for the Gold Bracket championship. Chaos jumped out to an early double figure lead behind  Corey Seng’s (ThunderRidge) 13 points in the first half that propelled Chaos to a 15 point lead at halftime. The Titans did manage somewhat of a rally in the second half out scoring Chaos 35-31  behind 18 points in the second half by Michael Ward (Mead) but never seriously challenged the Chaos lead.

The 15U Championship bracket went to the Colorado Miners Elite in an easy 30 point win over Granger D1 NM. Led by Mue Muwwakil , Breon Harper and Xavier Cooper the Miners never allowed Granger into the game, starting the game out on 13-2 run, 9 of which was from Harper.

The Utah Prospects won the championship game over the Colorado Titans.  The Titans are good squad and gave the Prospects their toughest game of the tournament but it wasn’t enough. By the way there is another Helbig coming to Holy Family.
