5A Top10 – Week of February 12
2/12/17
The 5A rankings get shuffled a bit this week with last week’s #5 Rock Canyon losing to Highlands Ranch,#4 Grandview losing to Eaglecrest and Overland, and #7 Doherty defeating #8 Denver East. There are a couple of tremendous games left before the regular season ends with George Washington playing Denver East and ThunderRidge and Rock Canyon going at it as well.
There are also a handful of teams that can make an argument to be in the top 10 like Vista Ridge, Rampart, Lakewood and Mountain Vista.
1. ThunderRidge 20-1, 8-0
The Grizzlies face Ponderosa and then Rock Canyon on Friday. What is more concerning to ThunderRidge’s run at a state championship is how long will senior guard Corey Seng be out. Seng injured last week had his arm in a sling for the Mountain Vista game. Hopefully, he doesn’t miss much more time and can continue his spectacular senior year.
2. George Washington 19-2, 6-0
Denver North on Monday then #9Denver East on Saturday ‘nuff said.
3. Chatfield 20-1, 12-0
The Chargers look to keep focused against Dakota Ridge and Columbine and finish out a perfect league season.
4. Eaglecrest 18-3, 11-1
It was just a matter of time until the Raptors made it back to the top 4. Ross and the Raptors play Smoky Hill on Wednesday. Then Ross and Lottie go at it one last time on Friday.
5. Doherty 18-3, 11-0
Doherty went 3-0 last week with wins against 2 Top10 teams and wrapped up the league crown in the process. The Spartans face Legend and Fountain-Fort Carson this week which will be good tune-ups for the playoffs.
6. Rock Canyon 18-2, 7-1
With the loss to Highlands Ranch the Jaguars will have to defeat #1 ThunderRidge to claim a share of the league title. But first, they have to play Castle View.
7. Grandview 18-3, 9-3
The Wolves lost both games last week and need to get on the winning track before the playoffs start. Grandview plays Cherry Creek on Wednesday and then closes the regular season with Mullen.
8. Fort Collins 16-3, 8-0
The Lambkins have to games left to pull off an undefeated league season Legacy and Monarch stand in the way of that goal.
9. Denver East 15-6, 6-0
East went 1-1 last week but this is George week records go out the window when these two rivals square off on Saturday. However, the Angles have to get through Denver West first.
10. Smoky Hill 13-8, 6-6
If the Buffaloes can defeat Eaglecrest and Cherry Creek this week that will prove that the young team has figured it out going into the playoffs.
